Swimming and Water Sports

Biograd has terrific public beaches just within reach, connected with the city centre by a promenade. Bošana Beach is located on the northern edge of the city, stretching right in front of apartment houses. It has all necessary amenities; though it lacks shade since there is no forest in the vicinity. Beaches Dražica and Soline are on the promenade that leads from Hotel Ilirija to Soline Bay. They have facilities of all sorts – entertainment, dining, sports and events for children. In the beaches’ immediate vicinity there is a pine forest. The sea is exceptionally clean, as the beaches carry the Blue Flag, and there is a gradual access to water. You can also experience swimming spots along the Biograd Riviera. There are pretty beaches in Filip-Jakov and Pakoštane. A beautiful beach is located in Crvena Luka, which is only three kilometres away from Biograd. Even though it does not include various facilities, it is worth of seeing due to its pristine sea, extremely shallow sand sea bottom and the surrounding thick pinewood forest.
Right off the main beach, towards the settlement Kumenat, there is an FKK nudist beach. If looking for a swim on an island, you should visit beautiful beaches on Pašman and its twin brother Ugljan which both have great beaches. The ferry to Pašman goes from Biograd very often and the ride lasts for only 20 minutes. On Pašman you can find a nudist camp Sovinje with its beautiful sand beach. Those who prefer solitude are welcome to visit nearby islets, particularly the island of Vrgada with its splendid sand beach. There are no cars on this island, and the regular line, as well as the more expensive excursion boats, departs from Biograd or Pakoštane. You can find beautiful beaches on the islands of Sveta Katarina with its FKK nudist beach, while islands Planac, Babac, and Mali and Veliki Dužac are reachable, for the most part, by excursion or private boats.

Water-sport enthusiasts have plenty of activities at their disposal. There are diving centres on the beaches Dražica and Bošana which regularly organise diving schools in the summer. Renting scooters, dinghies, canoes or pedal boats is another possibility. You can go paragliding, water skiing, and surfing and partake in other attractive sports activities on beach Dražica. An active sailing club organizes regattas through the year in Biograd. Some of the tourist agencies organize sailing schools of various classes, as well as skipper courses. Their offers also include rafting on the rivers Krka and Zrmanja and elsewhere, and diving trips to the Kornati. For those who prefer less exciting activities, there is aqua aerobic.
