Welcome to Zadar, a city of exceptional three-thousand year old history and rich cultural heritage. It will always offer you something new and original; it’s a city that will captivate your mind with its unique atmosphere and a rich cultural life.

Its irresistible uniqueness attracts enchanted admirers of historical monuments and cultural heritage, artists, tourists and its citizens. A walk along burnished city streets will not just be a walk through history, but also an experience of contemporary life. Zadar, a monumental city surrounded by historical city walls, reveals real archaeological and monumental treasures of ancient and medieval times and Renaissance. The city has many contemporary architectural achievements such as the Sea Organ – the first installation of such kind in the world.

Throughout its centuries-old tempestuous history, Zadar has been destructed, looted and devastated, emerging from the ruins stronger every time. These events have left behind traces and many factual records, which form part of city's valuable monumental heritage of today. Numerous churches and cultural monuments of various periods have been preserved and today they make a part of representative architectural styles. There are around 70 churches in the city centre, while the others are located in near or distant surroundings, totalling with more than 600 immobile cultural monuments.

A particularly indented coast, islands and intact nature allure many sailors to this region. The archipelago counts 24 islands, around 300 islets and reefs, 3 nature parks - Telašćica, Velebit and Vrana Lake, and 5 national parks - Paklenica, Plitvice lakes, Kornati Islands, Krka and Northern Velebit. These classify Zadar and its region at to the very top of the Croatian tourist offer.

40 years ago Alfred Hitchcock claimed that the city’s sunset is the most beautiful in the world. Even today, countless tourists agree with his opinion. They come to Zadar to admire the embrace of the sea, sunset and sky, surrounded with by the sounds of the widely-known Sea Organ and the magnificent lights of the installation The Greeting to the Sun.

Welcome to Zadar!
